    Default Minky question for quilt

If you had a quilt that will have minky on the top and back would you put a thin batting with it? Or would you sandwich the quilt without the batting and call it good!

I've made several for my grandson. Top-4" blocks, alternating minky block & cotton print block. Back side done the same or solid piece of minky. I put a thin batting in. Then tie it in corner of blocks with yarn and then do one row of big stitch hand quilting on border and put on the binding. Just my way. Hope this helps.

I try to avoid minky at any cost because it just stretches too much.

I made my son a quilt with minky on the front and back - - I did put batting in. I wanted it to be warm for him to use at college

I've always added battings to my minkie quilts. Flannel with minkie, cotton with minkie, other fleece with minkie... I like the added loft and "cush" it adds.

I made a quilt with quilter's flannel blocks for the top and a minky back. I didn't put in any batting. It worked out well and he loves it. I can hardly get it away from him to wash it!

I like to use Minky backing for kids quilts. They love it. Often use flannel for tops, always use Quilters Dream cotton batting. They have various lofts and can't remember the names right now, but usually use the medium loft. I don't have trouble with stretching. I pin baste, by the way.

I once used a old flannel sheet for the batting. Worked well
