I need to make a quick baby quilt and want to do pinwheels. I love the tut from MO Quilting, sewing all 4 sides and then cutting. My question is, if I want a finished 5" square (not including the 1/4" seam) what size do I cut my original fabric. I can't find any posts that tell you how to figure the original size fabric to get the finished size you want. Any help would be appreciated.

I would cut the squares at least 6.25 and trim after the HST are made. 1/4 inch on each side will bring it down to 5.25 and you will have the 1/4 inch fudge factor. Clear as mud, (I'm not the best explainer!!)

I have not seen their tut. I took a class. For HST, to determine size of beginning squares: *finished size of unit + 1 inch. Hope this helps. For quarter square triangles: *finished size + 1 1/2 inch. Hugs.

Thanks so much. I just couldn't figure it out so now I go starting cutting like a crazy woman.
