I would spray starch all the fabrics after washing. The polished cotton should have a smooth finish that way, though not still shiny. I think I would prefer it without the sheen.

if a wallhanging then why prewash.

In mixing fabrics, even cotton but different weave and finish I try to think to "respect the nature of the fabric' Some will be easier to handle than others. So press, starch, pin, pin pin if necessary.

I agree, for a wall hanging I would not prewash unless for some reason you think it will need to be washed later on. :D:D:D

I would mix fabrics. Sometimes I use all different mediums, and I embellish a lot. They call me the embellishment queen.

If it's for a wallhanging - and it looks nice to you - put whatever you like together.

I've seen art quilts/textiles - and this will be in that category if it's on the wall - use beads, feathers, buttons, all sorts of non-washable things on them.

The experience I've had with polished cotton is that the sheen washes out. So, if you want to mix in other fabrics, it will be fine because none of them will "shine".

oh my goodness, if we couldn't mix fabrics would i ever be in trouble...i've made quilts with wool, silk, cotton, homespun, flannel, velvet and microsuede...it is BEAUTIFUL when i make a quilt i use the fabrics i believe makes the quilt...as long as everything has been washed, or will wash ok together, or if it's for a wall hanging you don't even have to worry about that part...use what you want...ya know, those 'art-quilters' even put non-fabric items on their quilts.

    Mix Away!!

Art quilts often contain all kinds of crazy (to a traditional quilter!) fabrics and mediums, and are all the more stunning for it. You will have a project that has some unusual interest when you mix.

If it's going on the wall, combine anything you want.
If it's going to be washed, consider how the different fabrics might play well together in the washing process.

    Otherwise, go for it!
