I just had my first experience with Bella solids. I found some of the same issues you did. I like Kona cotton better, be sure to get the real deal. One issue with the Kona is that it is harder to piece in that it is a bit on the thick side.

I just noticed these and wondered how they are. thanks for the thumbs up. I will definitely look at these when I need something for kids or utility quilts.

Kona Bay solids are not the same as Kaufman Kona solids. It's been a long time since I shopped in JoAnn's, but it seems to me that they used to carry Kona Bay solids more so than Kaufman Kona solids.
Now this would explain a lot. I order Kona (Kaufman) from Hancock of Paducah and I have friends that buy it from JoAnn. There is definitely a difference.

I just completed a quilt with all Moda solids and it raveled like crazy! I like the weight of it but I think it does ravel more than Kona.

    I prefer Bella over Kona.
I prefer Michael Miller Cotton Couture over Bella.
I prefer Art Gallery Solids over Michael Miller.

MM and AG both have a much higher thread count than the first two.

I just bought some Kona cotton today at Hancock Fabrics with their 50 percent off coupon. Ran around $4.50 a yard. The bolt does state Kona, not Kona Bay in case some are wondering.

It should also say Kaufman, as Kaufman is the manufacturer of Kona.

I don't recall if it said Kaufman. I have purchased their Kona cotton before, and it has worked out well for me though.
