I'm with doggramma, I prefer the Kona Black. It's just very slightly heavier (I use snow for my appliqué si it's great fabric). Mode des make very nice solid colors, but (IMHO) you will be very happy with the Kona - just make sure it is authentic Robert Kaufman Kona.

Moda Super Black is a more rich black with no gray overtones. It also remains black wash after wash. It does not develop fade lines where it has been folded like in a binding. I use super black whenever I need black for a pattern.

I like the Kona black. When I need to buy it I always buy 5 or 10 yards because black is hard to match. Black is not always black and does not mix well with other black. I do pre-wash it;however, I have never had it bleed.

The other brands leave you wondering. I have the Kona sample card, and I use it to order new colors to match or contrast. I also use it when I forgot what I bought, so I match it with the sample and order more. I've never been disappointed.
