The new machines have their purpose, especially if you want fancy stitches and zig zag. I love sewing with a treadle machine, the favorite is a 1917 White Family rotary.

Taste is relative. I'm not a fan of the wrought-iron and gilded-rose look. Clean, simple lines go farther with me.

This is my 8900, yes I like my bling. The mocha singer 404 has root beer sparkles. I found them in the scrap booking area at the craft store. They just stick on

I think my black vintage ones are lovely too.

In the 1800's traveling photographers crisscrossed the country and those old photos often featured the sewing machine cabinet in the photos, as highly valued possessions. The sewing machine and wash machines revolutionized homemaking

My Janome 9900 has 3 removable front decorative plates. I love my teal one. Maybe I should add some sparkle to it! I love the modern computerized machines. I hyper-ventalate at the thought of ever having a room of Koala or Arrow furniture but that is a dream and not in my radar. I am very happy with my rummage sale find of a drop in sewing tanke vintage eary 1980's or 1990's that I paid $80 for!

I don't have a love affair with older mechanicals tho I appreciate them for the diversity and nostalgia of them. I think that if my mom was an avid seamstress I would view them in a different light. Like power sreering on cars, gimme my computerized machines! VRRROOOOM!
