I like both styles. I feel like both have places in different settings. I tend to like solids in my fabric mix which might be considered "modern." Quilts speak to me and I am open to various styles just as I am open to various points of view.

Just had this conversation with a friend yesterday. I like traditional, but don't always stick to the exact pattern, and I like more contemporary/modern fabrics than Civil War or '30s. I'm also happy with some forays into art quilting. We concluded that I just can't be pigeon-holed in this way!

I am a traditional person (my daughters say old fashioned) but I like for my quilt tops to be more about the design than the fabric. Many of the quilt magazines are using old patterns with new fabrics and renaming the finished quilt---I find that weird...LOL

I definitely lean towards traditional, but lately I have been doing more modern for the kids in the family.

I like to look at modern quilts, but didn't want to do one. Then my eldest requested one. I did an illusion top and a falling triangles on the back (double the request!). I found it to be a very good experience. Working on it sort of made the other parts of my brain work -if that makes sense. Now, I find that every few projects, I do something in a modern vent such as a small quilt or a wall hanging. I did a table runner and 2 placemats for an ultra modern young couple in black and white. They were very unique and stark and modern, but quite striking. While I still prefer traditional blocks, this was a very liberating experience.

I prefer traditional quilts. I love some of the modern designs, but mostly the ones where they are rooted in traditional designs. Wonky designs don't excite me.

If you asked me this same question two weeks in a row I am sure that I would give you two different answers. I like them all and I like to do them all. I'm always temporarily swayed by the pictures posted or the YouTube presentations. I make some of each. I just like to sew and quilt and I am open to new ideas.

I vote for traditional!! It seems to me that those older patterns are the essence of quilting.
