I quit smoking, bout 6-7 years ago. Husband didn't(only smokes outside) so I figure I can have $20 a week, if we have it extra. No, don't hold it over till the next week, if not spent, oh well. He seems fine with this too. Of course, the cost of cigarettes have gone up, hmmmm, maybe I am due for a raise.

I figure it's cheaper than therapy. I don't really have a budget but I also don't go shopping all the time either.

I agree! Motorcycles, tools, motor home, flies, boat, etc. I always ask women what hobbies their husband Has .....Always more $$$ than mine.

I have only watched the cost since I retired. I maintain that if it keeps me happy,sane and sociable, it is no different an expenditure to entertainment, drinking or holidays etc. I don't need to make money on it to justify the activity - although that would be nice just to keep in stock with supplies. Do golfers justify the expensive clubs etc by saying they will win the next tournament? I think it is the same for our hobby- if you can afford it, enjoy it without guilt.

As long as the bills are paid, and we are financially OK, I don't put a price on it...but on the other hand I am careful about my spending habits..does that make sense???

i figure its cheaper than therapy is there whenever i need it and makes me feel better and makes me a better person. i also get to give everyone cool gifts now if everyone would quit having babies i could get back to my to-do list however i found out yesterday the IT guy at work just found out his wife is pregnant after 12 years , thats got to be something to celebrate its their 1st no word on sex yet i think ill be looking at patterns and waiting its way more fun when you know.
lol wish i could find some computer type fabric.......

I use to "make do" with what I had to work with for my quilting. Then I begin to notice the volume of gear, supplies, guns that my husband "needed" for hunting.( which he enjoys and I don't begrudge him) So I took a second look at what I "needed" to enhance my quilting experience. Turns out, that I "need" an accuquilt Go and it just happens to be on sale this week!

I need to do this too --just for posterity's sake and sanity. Ever wondered how much great grandma's wedding quilt cost her to purchase the fabrics etc? Wish mine had kept diarys. LOL I am also going to keep track of time spent creating a pattern or layout plus the hours in piecing etc. My major cost has to be in the books and magazines and patterns... I am cost cutting there by picking them up gently used at our local Friends of the Library book sales. Also trade them around alot. And do tyou know how fast you can fill a hard drive with free and prepaid downloadables? LOL

I don't keep receipts I would probably lose them anyway. Since I am on a small fixed income I guess I do have a budget. I have been trying not to buy fabric at all except for what I need to finish things. I did cave and buy for a new quilt just for me and went into such sticker shock its going to be awhile before I buy anything else.I still need backing. I have so much stuff to use up,finish up, clean out etc I don't have time to shop anyway.
I must say though you are very well organaized .
