Monthly Fabric/Quilting Allowance or Budget??
#41
I don't have an intentional budget, it sort of found me - approx $120 per month seems to cover what I've been spending since my trips to JoAnns, or LQS approx once a week end up costing around $30. In my head if I miss a week, I can spend a little more $$$$

I'm still fairly new to quiling & am curious about how much each of you budget for fabric/quilting supplies each month.
How does it work - drowning in expenses - need to budget, any advice would be helpful

I don't really have a dollar amount budget but it's like if I see something and I can afford it without my bills taking a hit; I buy it. I asked myself two questions; first of all; can I afford it and am I worth it; second one is always yes so I'm always half way to there to getting it.

I have cut way back on my impulse buying, I look for sales, no shipping costs, things like that. Once in awhile my DH spends money for stuff we don't really need but he wants it and has worked hard for this privilege so I get to spend a like amount on my sewing/quilting goodies. Works for me. 8-)

That way I hopefully have extra by time the quilt show is here since there is always so much I want there. If I buy online I put that receipt in the coin purse and take out the money and put it toward the card I used online. Just my little game I play with myself helps to keep credit cards down also.

No budget. I'm a "on the spur of the moment" shopper. If I see a fabric that talks to me, I buy it!!" I have only sold 2 quilts, most of mine are donated to one charity or the other. My husband does our taxes and fabric is a charitable deduction.

I, too, keep myself on a type of budget. I do housecleaning for people with lake rental homes. The money I earn from this is my quilting money. So, I have to be careful. Some months are abundant and others, scant. We are debt free and I do use a credit card, but reimburse hubby for what I spend on quilting. I only try to buy when I have a project in mind, but some fabrics are just too irresistible. I also, have a friend, who was cleaning out her stash and shared with me. Her "old" fabrics were all "new" to me.
