Moonbeam's memory quilt
#1
6-month old "Moonbeam", so nicknamed by his parents, would have been 2 on August 17th. He had Hypoplasty Left-Heart Syndrome. Sadly, he departed as an angel New Year's Eve, from complications following surgery to improve his heart function.
My granddaughter has a different congenital heart defect, but through my daughter's contact with Moonbeam's parents, I came to know them and wanted to do something quilted to memorialize him. He had such an infectious smile!
To honor Moonbeam's short life, I made this memory quilt. It's 20X20 inches. Thanks to Sheila (a fellow board member) and her stash of fabric, I used her larger angel pattern for the center print and cut up my smaller version of the same print for use in the border.

My 22-mo. old granddaughter will have her 3rd open-heart surgery in the near future. The procedure (Fontan) will permanently convert her 4-chambered heart to a 2-chambered heart since the anomaly affected her valve useless/irreparable. She IS doing well. She's a beautiful little girl, loved beyond measure by her older brother and sister, as well as her extended family.

What a wonderful keepsake for these parents. Over the years they will be able to hold it and bring the good memories to mind. What a generous "giving" gift you made them! Praying for your grandbaby.
