I have never tied a quilt and really haven't seen too many, so I am not any expert. I think I have seen quilts that have the yarn tied in bows, but I don't know how they stand up to washing. It make sense to me that some will need to have a few bows retied over time.

Tying a quilt
I have tied many quilts using the international stitch. This is easy to do and leaves no "tails. Here is a utube link to demonstrate how to do it. The only difference between her demonstration and how I do it is that I use my quilting frames -- just as I would if I were doing actual quilting. I think this might be a way for you to tie your quilt but still have the beautiful design become the focus instead of the ties. Good luck
