Quilting Newbie here
Sorry, I can't answer your question, but I would LOVE to learn to make mug rugs. Do you have any sites or free patterns that I could learn how to do this from? I'm a rank newbie at quilting, and it seems like something small would be great to learn on. Or at least less painful than a full-sized quilt!
Thanks for any guidance you can give me -

I just did two dozen of them for my new neighbors. I just made 6" quilt blocks. They were really liked by everyone. I just used odds and ends of fabric, Insulbrite and 1.75" double fold binding hand stitched to the back. This is something you can make any size and use any pattern you want. NO RULES !!

Mug rugs are made to hold a cup (or cup and saucer) and a small snack plate. Kindo a mini-placemat. It can be any shape. I'm not sure about a mug hug, but I think it is a wrap-around for your mug.

I like to cut leftovers into strips and then " quilt as you go " them to a pretty backing either straight or on the diagonal. Bind and you are done. I make mine about 9X6. My coffee cup and muffin fit on there nicely in the morning.
