Love Mug Rugs - most are 5" by 7 inches or 6 inches by 8 inches... or like the one we made For Swap-bot we did a leaf shaped one mine was about 6 1/2 by 9 inches.. Gotta have room on it for the Mug of What ever and a Treat like Doughnut or cookies or Brownies or a Muffin... These are made to use and get tossed in Washer... just Look at Pinterest or Google Mug Rugs and see all the Varieties there are... Good Way to use up Scraps. ! ! ! I have used poly batting - thinner ones or the Cotton Batting... ...

I made some that were 5 X 7 "- machine embroidered in-the-hoop ones - and don't think they are big enough. They will hold a cup of coffee, but not much else. So I recently made myself one that is about 6 X 9 ", and I love that size - holds my mug AND a cookie (or two!) That one was my first attempt at paper piecing. Not sure I will try THAT again - but maybe, because I loved the mug rug. Don't look too close because I have only made two or three - but I am having fun making them.

I make mine the smaller size and do a cup cozy to match. Great for people who are allowed coffee at their work station (I used to be one of those) as it helps keep the coffee warmed and helps if there ever is an accident.
