    Default My $5 Iron

I know that many on this board are not fond of Rowenta Irons but I found one at a yard sale for $5 and just couldn't resist. This is a model DX9800. I don't ever use the steam feature on my irons as I prefer the spray bottle so if it leaks that is not a problem for me. A year or so ago I found a Rowenta at a yard sale for $1 and it has held up very well. I did notice that this Rowenta has 1600 watts and my Black & Decker has 1500 watts. I do like the higher watt as it seams I don't have to hold the iron on the seam as long to get it fully pressed down.

Good for you! I hope it lasts a long time for you. I got mine at a garage sale too, although it is a Sunbeam.

I have bought two Rowenta irons (on two different occasions) at thrift shops for $5 each. They are the same model as the Rowenta I bought for myself at least 15 years ago, that fell to the concrete basement floor on a couple of occasions and has been glued and duct-taped back together by dh for maybe 10 years. It is still going strong, but I wanted a replacement just in case it ever gives out. My model has a built-in water reservoir (not the removable tanks that always seem to develop leaks) and I still use the steam feature on it. I love the auto-shutoff feature but a lot of quilters do not, and I think that's why they donated their almost-new Rowentas.
