Although another way to look at it... Better to find out now that the fabric would fade than after you had put all that work into the quilt.
Pre-washing or not, is a personal preference. I am one of the Always Pre-wash camp

I think your washing it was good. It not only gave you a look at what it was going to be like in the quilt as well as had you washed afterwards and found it faded you would of been truly upset. Now you have the choice of using it as is or getting something else to use in its place.

Nothing to clear up. I just don't choose to. I'm probably in the minority, and I've been exceedingly lucky over the years. I'm sure I'll have a dangit moment that will turn me to the good quilter side. Until then, I'll just not do it. I always wash before I gift them, so if there's a problem I know it before I pass it on.

 The best and darkest and blackest black. Amazing.

I agree, I am from the pre-wash brigade....I'm probably a bit of a control freak...I just don't like surprises. The only downside I can see about pre-washing is the amount of starch I have to use....but that, I can live with.

Could you take it back and ask for a refund? I would think the quilt shop owner would want to know as to get in touch with the mfg., plus keep you as a happy customer.
