Sometimes a pretty bright turquoise goes extremely well with olive or even a salmon colour.

that's not stitch-in-the-ditch (SITD). sitd is when the stitching is hidden inside the seam where the two fabrics join. that way,you can't see the stitching at all. what i did is called outline stitching, i think. or not.

Love the pattern. You did a great job. I think your color choices go very well.

i forgot to mention that i 'swirled' every joint on the back of that quilt, just like elonore burns does. i have a black and blue thumb to prove it. what a waste of time that was. i usually press all seams open and you get the same thickness both ways, so no more swirling for me. doing it her way, you get bumps that have to be quilted over. doing it with open seams you have even fabric to work over. pressing to one side is only necessary for SITD, IMO.

I have to give you credit for finishing the project after all those problems. I would have been so frustrated that it would be a UFO hidden in my closet for years to come. But you have two people already wanting the quilt...so well done!

What a great story, had me in stitches. Sorry you suffered so in the making, but it is a fun read.

Love your work, the brown (though you despise it) is actually really effective (I happen to love brown) and the olive and red combination is beautiful. You picked just the right pattern to showcase your precious reds. Thanks for sharing with us.

i would love to think i was really finished. i still have some quilting to do. then quilting the borders. then the binding and the sleeve. yes, a SLEEVE. my dh thinks it should hang and be seen by the masses. what is he thinking?

but at least i'm so close that i think i can keep up the pace, just to get rid of it.

when it's all done, i will post it and shout to the world "YES! YES! YES!"

    (don't anyone hold your breath)

Great quilt. Great story. Will trade you Alabama humidity for yours in Jersey.

I think you did a great job with this. And by the way, I sometimes press open and sometimes to the side, depends on the block.
