I have read many posts on thimbles. I hand quilt and have been using this type for a few years. Your needle fits in one of the little grooves in the top and the raised sides keep the needle from sliding off your thimble head. "Fons & Porter's online for $1.99

Patty, I love the leather ones with the metal spot on them. They don't make my finger sweat like the regular ones do..crafty_linda_b

I like to use those too. but I do have a prob with sweating. I put a small amount of cotton around my finger tip and it helps.

Just wanted to add: My finger sweats also, in this thimble. I have done this for years........... Each time I run out of thread on my needle and have to add more thread, I take my thimble off and lay it down while I am re-threading. (It gives the tip of my finger a little breather). Put the thimble back on until, I run out of thread again in the needle. Repeat.... each time. This seems to help me with the sweating problem.

I also use the leather one on my 2nd finger and a rubber one on my thumb (for quilting away from me). I have the sweating problem with metal ones..... I sometimes quilt for hours....
