Personally I have been making my stitch length shorter and ironing open my seams.

Plus go here and look at this tute. It will help alot with matching seams.

What a great site you picked for the instructions etc. ... I joined it and I think it would be a good idea to check out all the lessons offered. Just make sure you have set aside a GAGGLE of hours to learn what you can.

....and please get a ruler guard!! It will save cutting your finger(s). And NEVER cut without shoes on! I have seen a lot of people who cut their fingers really bad because they didn't use the ruler guard, and at least two who, when they dropped their cutter, had to have stitches in their foot. Ouch!!

I recently went on a sewing cruise , one of the requirements was to have glass headed pins, I did not know why , DUH, well when you iron over plastic headed pins the head melts onto your fabric and the iron, Some of the projects we did required you to iron over pins to make the perfect fit, Some of the ladies told me they use only glasss headed pins for everything, I don't iron over pins because of the marks they leave behind,I make the traditional older looking quilts so mostly I do not wash my material first and that leaves an old puckered quilt like Grandma used to make from flour sacks,

Just have fun and don't be too critical of your efforts. You're doing this because you want to, no one will make you!

Make sure your seams are 1/4 inch. This makes the biggest difference if not.

A good rotary cutter and lots of blades

a seam ripper (things happen to all of us that require taking out the seams)

a most comfortable chair to allow you to stay in the sewing room for hours

radio or television for company ( I sometimes need a little noise, sometimes I want silence)

    rulers, pins, good scissors

These are good starters for anyone who is beginning.
