What a gorgeous FIRST quilt. Well done. I would quilt it with meandering hearts if you are going to quilt it yourself.

That certainly is a beautiful bed runner and your talents and creativity are expertly shown! I, too, would suggest silk batting. It can be a bit pricey but you're dealing with a relatively small quilt. But it does drape beautifully. If you want to go with a cotton, I think Quilters Dream cotton drapes a bit nicer than W&N (which I use all the time). I also agree with marking your quilting design. I like the idea of swirling hearts...completely enhances the design concept.

Your bed runner is beautiful..........so romantic. The effort to add your own lovely details really makes it special. Be sure and post a picture when you are finished quilting and binding it.

If you have a walking foot, you do try something simpler where you're just quilting a straight line along the seams with a complimentary decorative stitch. Or you could jump all in and try FMQ (Free Motion Quilting), but I would definitely try it out on something else first, because the first time is always difficult and results in all lot of fiddling until you find the right settings for you and your machine. There are some great tutorials out there about learning to FMQ, Leah Day has a lot of great resources.

Before I FMQd my first quilt top I practiced drawing on a white board where I moved the white board and the marker stayed stationary. It helped me get a feel for how to "draw" without moving the pen.

There is also the option of using your embroidery machine. I'm not certain how, but my Mom has designs she uses to quilt sometimes.

Good luck to you, in whatever you choose to do. It's a really great first quilt. Here's to many more.
