This is my first post and I searched for this answer but found none so far. I hope someone can answer me. <gulp> I've been quilting my first big quilt on my Juki TLQ98E; it seems to be leaving a fine layer of black oil/dust when I run in on a fast speed. I thought maybe I had to much pressure on the presser foot but that didn't help, then I cleaned everything (again), oiled it (again) and in general spent about an hour trying to clear this up. I'm doing straight lines up and down so it would be great if I can go a little faster than normal...but you can imagine my horror when I look to a thin spatter of oily black "stuff" when I'm done. Some of it comes off when I use the sticky roller, but I'm really hoping that it will come out when I wash it.

Anyway, has anyone ever had this happen and what did they do? It doesn't say anything about this kind of problem in the manuel and I looked online (Goggled the problem) and I didn't find anyone having that problem either. A sincere thank you to anyone who knows what I'm doing wrong. I am new to this machine (I LOVE it by the way) so it I'm hoping it's just "me" and not the machine. ~LOL~

I have not had that problem. Had you been using black thread previously? Maybe it is dust from that?

I'd like to hear what others say about this too.

Does that machine have a belt internally? It may be dust from the belt which is black rubber.

That's new to me. I have gotten oil in my seam when I didn't run out the oil enough on scraps after oiling the bobbin. But dust?? (When I do get oil spots on my quilt, I rub them with Dawn detergent before washing).

let us know if you find out anything, that's not an issue I have had.

When was the last time you cleaned the machine? It sounds like lint in the machine being shoved out of whatever opening it can find, due to the high speed....the oil is because the lint absorbs the oil on the inside.

What kind of oil are you using? Could that be the problem?

    Don't know...just trying to help.

When I first got my Juki TL98Q I got some black oil from the walking foot, I cleaned the little rollers from the bottom with q-tips and alcohol. Be careful not to over oil

If it is new or fairly new I would call the dealer and ask them.

Good luck, hope your quilt will be ok.

    Hugs.

"didn't help, then I cleaned everything (again), oiled it (again) "
From what you said I think you have over oiled it. The oil has to come out somewhere.....just a guess
