    Default My Mauve Dresdens

I am making this quilt for a competition, and then it will go to my newest granddaughter. I didn't want to put the borders on it, but once I had it together I reread the contest rules and realized it was 6 inches too short to qualify. I think the outside border just looks too empty. And ideas? I can't make it any larger because I am limited by the fabric I have for the back...

Put some little half-dresdens around the border.

    That is lovely!

I think once you have it quilted it will be fine and maybe use a purple binding? Or if you are confident in your quilting you could do the quilting on the border in purple...what ever you decide keep it small scale so it doesn't detract from the plates. Great quilt!

I agree with this. Before I read what SuziSew wrote, I thought that if it were mine, I would do purple feathers or vines on the border. If you don't have enough purple for the binding, do you have enough to do a scrappy purple binding. If not, then go with the white or you might do a knife edge binding that does not show on the front.

Lovely Dresden Plate! Can you do a scalloped border and still meet the size requirements? I think scallops and purple binding would look awesome.

Oh wow, I didn't think of that! I like that idea a lot and I think I can do that.

I can't add any of the fans to the border because they aren't wide enough for the blades.

I have plain purple for the back and binding.

Try out black for the binding and see if that makes it pop.

This is just gorgeous! That is one lucky granddaughter. ~smile~ My first quilt was a dresden that I made for my sister. When she passed my other sister took it for her guest room. I'll bet you win with your entry!
