Maybe I shouldn't have commented in this thread. My Amazon order actually made it to a WI town near me on Friday, but was very efficiently shipped out again today and received in Atlanta, GA. What???

This happened to us. One year my daughter and her family got more Christmas presents than would fit in their car for the trip home. So after they left, we packaged up the rest of the gifts and sent them by mail. It was all toys and books. They received, in MY box, one tea kettle! Based on the card included with the tea kettle, and the wonders of the internet, my daughter was able to determine who originally sent the tea kettle. She contacted the sender of the tea kettle, and determined where that gift should go. She took it to the post office, unwrapped, and explained what happened. My daughter never received her gifts, and the intended recipient of the tea kettle never received the tea kettle. We filled out the paper work for the lost gifts, and never received a reply from the post office. Yup, I still get upset when I think about this.

The post office sent them both out on same day, my daughter got hers in a week, my son never got theirs. I contacted post office, my daughter in law had mailed them for me and she saved the receipts with tracking for a week and just thought they got them and threw them away. So all in all, another 2 weeks and nothing. Then one day, I get a letter in mail from post office with all the to and from address labels from the box, the postage from the box, and the tracking number cut off and a letter saying they were sorry but the box got destroyed. OK, so where is the stuff, couldn't they shove it in a box and send it along it's way? NOPE, I am just OUT all that stuff, all the money it cost me to ship, etc. and the presents GONE. No service anymore. they wanted me to list everything and send it back to them and they would try to find it. NOTHING not one word after that. Still fuming over it cause I don't have much money in the first place and then all the kids stuff just gone. I wonder if some little kid somewhere is playing with my grandson's birthday presents. Sorry, I am just a little bitter over it. LOLLOL

Boston is lovely at this time of year...not quite autumn yet (no colors in the leaves), but the heat and humidity have gone. Hope your package is enjoying itself...the South Postal Annex is quite a nice place to visit, right on the waterfront (though it is on a channel, rather than river or ocean front! LOL) and many folks visit there 24/7 (granted, they all work there, but still...your package won't lack for friends).
My best "lost" story: my DH and I had planned a trip to Quebec back in 2008. We rented a house for a week and they requested a deposit by mail. No problem...or so I thought. Wrote the check, put the proper "airmail" postage on it and off it went. Mind you, this was about 3 months prior to our vacation, so plenty of time to get from the Boston area up to Quebec City. As it turned out, we could have walked to Quebec faster than our deposit traveled. I called the landlord 2 weeks prior to arrival, but since she spoke no English and I no French, I had no idea if she received our check. All I could understand was "Bon" (which I took to mean "good"). Off we drove and got to the house. Landlord (and an interpreter) met us with they key and handed us our letter (unopened). It had traveled down to Guyana (South America) and had just arrived in Quebec the previous day! Around the World in 80 Days??? How do you get "Guyana" from "Quebec"...typewritten and clearly printed, is anybody's guess! Letter had a great vacation and so did we.

And this is the business that is cutting our Post Office from 8 hours a day to 4 hours - 2 in morning and 2 in the afternoon. My husband is the postmaster and has decided to take early retirement instead of driving the extra 45 minutes one way to continue working full-time.

LOL. Love how you state this! Vacation indeed! I live about 10 miles from my local Post Office, but don't mail anything with a mailing address to the same town that I live in as it takes 3 days for it to get there. I hand deliver items with the same zip as mine. I can mail something to the next town over or 150 miles away and it will get there the next day. Just makes no sense.

Here's another one for you: I sent a largish card (It had NO notation that it needed extra postage.) to my daughter. Card returned for "Insufficient Postage". MY DH took it to the PO and had to pay an ADDITIONAL $1.10 postage....for a CARD!!!! It was about 6x7 inches!!!!
