By the way, my wife and I recently packed up FIVE bags of fabric we don't want, to give to a charity.

Thanks for putting this out there - I have thought of kitting a few projects. Watching the Food Channel, the advice is to get all of your ingredients ready first. But we always have the freedom to throw in another flavor! Spontaneity is a lot of fun!

Thanks Jzaaboo for your intriguing post. Being a retail business owner of two unique stores, I completely understand the inventory/asset component. Funny, when I began quilting 3+ years ago, I bought fabric (that I just had to have) that still has not been used. Today, I am much more focused on individual projects so I spend less on fabric and I only work on two or three projects at a time which (for me) I feel like I get more accomplished and not overwhelmed.
Your post has motivated me to further organize my kits and to sort my patterns along with any fabric I might have purchased for those patterns. Great ideas. Thank you for your post.

These are things that make you go hmmmn for me. I live a life with so many rules (at work mostly) and shoulds that I need my quilting space and my quilting in general to be a respite for fun and creativity. Sometimes it's an organized process and sometimes it's a creative mess with project overload. And I wouldn't have it any other way. I need to have several projects in various stages and types going at all times. Right now I am working on 2 quilt repairs, 1 needle turn appliqué, 2 JRRs, an EPP, starting a purse, and contemplating a Jacob's Ladder plus a couple of other things. And the list goes on and on of all the things I wish I had time to start. I'll work on the different projects as I'm in the mood, or have just so much time, or will be traveling etc. It's the way my quilting world goes around and I wouldn't have it any other way. To each his own right?

Great points and lots of food for thought. Some of the points may not be for everyone, but I think you are holding up a mirror to allow us to consider whether there are some reflections here that apply to "me."

I love your manifesto! What ever side of the brain that works like that I don't have. That being said, my DH challenged me to do no more fabric shopping until I had used up some of my stash. What I learned is I had some great quilts hiding in my stash I would never have found! I learned to create better from what I have and not always looking at what's new and trendy....I tend to be traditional anyway. The other benefit is I did have fabric I would never use but didn't know that until I was challenged .... now those are happy in a new home where they are appreciated!
Now I have 12 new quilts from a stash I didn't think had one AND I am planning that first shopping spree....SO EXCITED!
Same result .... different approach!
