I have a fleece blanket on my bed as a sheet, with 2 quilts. Im toasty warm. im leaning towards using fleece instead of batting. Will make my quilts warmer i beleive. I also have 3 dogs that curl up with me lol. Stay warm folks the best you can.For those who have extra quilts that are lighter in weight, cover your windows to help keep heat in. Maybe its a good idea to make quilted window covers and sew a pocket on one end for a spring rod. If we continue to have winters such as this year, it may come in handy in the future.

I am here in WI also, in a cool house because we prefer it 66 or 67, bundled up in a fleece blanket. I use warm and natural also. My quilts tend to be a little too warm for me. But I do think the coolness of the cotton in the quilt tops and bottoms makes the quilts feel cooler and body heat doesn't warm up the quilts as body heat and fleece does.

Remember the mittens in the poem "Hiawatha"? He
"made them with the smooth side outside,
with the smooth side skin side outside,
made them with the fur side inside,
with the warm side fur side inside."
I have neck warmers: tubes of fabric filled with rice or beans, heated in the microwave, and put around my neck and by my feet when I go to bed. During the night, they get kicked out, but I go to sleep so much faster when I am warm. And I cover my head with a small floppy pillow. Works wonders.

Thanks for all the feedback on this topic, but I think when it gets super cold and windy a normal quilt just doesn't do the trick unless you layer them. It has been below 0 here the past few days and wind chills in the minus digits, so I dug out my down comforter to put on top of my quilt and it keeps me toasty warm at night. I can't wait for Spring!
