LORI!! Yes, yes, yes!! That's the best description ever and perfectly fits how I view my own stash!

I regularly make any quilt just from my stash; hardly ever (any more) buy fabric to finish a quilt, except very occasionally the backing; and usually buy fabric with the idea of "restocking" the "pantry".

I can make full wall quilts from my stash, and that includes rejecting some perfectly matched fabrics!

I can also make a Halloween quilt out of strictly spider fabrics, or witch fabrics, or bats, or skeletons, or cats, or even monsters like Dracula and Frankenstein.

My husband thinks I'm a bit "batty" but, as others have said, it's wonderful to go to the fabric pantry when inspiration strikes and be able to pull your next project from the shelves. Enjoy your stash and keep building.

One of my friends and I bought a quilt magazine for 10 cents ... She fell in love with one of the patterns in the magazine and made it strictly from her stash. She calls it her 10 cent quilt. She is now making her 4th one still using just her stash.

I hope her abilities will, by osmosis, come to me.

I love this board. Now I know I suffer from SABLE due to a well stocked "pantry." Excellent!

Stashes are fun to have! I started out by buying the fabrics just because I liked them. The last few years I have been going with tone on tone colors....they are perfect for going with the print fabrics already in the stash. Now I check my stash first before buying new fabric....I call it cashing in my investments,

I don't have an extensive stash, but yesterday I started working on a Snake Log Cabin, and pulled about 20 to 30 pieces off my shelves that will work perfectly.

As for what to do with the left overs after you are GONE! My children are starting to worry. They don't want to deal with it. When a member of our quilt club dies, we have lots of stuff donated, but sometimes don't know what to do with the started projects. I'm starting to keep the fabrics and pattern for each project in a pizza box. This is for me as well as for those left behind. Even used pizza boxes work if they aren't too messy. I just wipe them off as best I can and cover the bottom with freezer paper. They stack nicely on a shelf and are labeled so that I know what is in them.

In an effort to reduce my stash I have been sewing just from my stash for over a year. Haven't bought much of anything, no batting, no batting, few notions. I can finally see that I'm making headway. Sometimes I don't have just the color or print I would like but I just substitute something else and the results have been innovative and I love them anyway, sometimes it is an improvement!

Didn't your mama have that talk with you about fourth grade? LOL I honestly believe the stuff breeds every night while I'm sleeping because I surely couldn't have bought that much, could I?
