What is the make and model?

I had the very same thing happen. I think it was just from over use though. I brought one from Overstock that was less expensive and, quite frankly, better than the one I purchased that was made for my sewing machine.

I bought a generic walking foot from Joann's with the 40% off coupon. I have a short shank vintage machine.
The clerk told me if I saved the receipt and the packaging I could return it if it didn't work. So I bought it and took a chance.
It works like a dream and cost less than $10.00. It is worth a try as you can return it.

I order my items from these two places. They are fast and cheaper than our local business for parts. Just in case you can not exchange it.
