Wonderful find for a wonderful price!! Congrats, you're going to LOVE her!! :)
Side note: The machine was commissioned in November of 1956, but most likely was not actually made until 1957. The dates on the Singer site only tell the date that they decided to make machines with those serial numbers and what numbers would go with what model of machine.

The Attic which is like Goodwill has a 201 with a cabinet for $50.00. I keep walking by it drooling but money is tight right now. If you live close to Tullahoma, Tn. it is still there. It was $75.00 and has been marked down to $50.00. The instruction book is with it.

Lucky you!! try this URL: www.singerco.com/support/machine-serial-numbers
the serial number should be on the right front base.
have fun with your 201 -- it's supposed to be "the best machine singer ever made.

ps --- curious - what did you pay? my hubby got a filthy, rusty electric singer 15 for $5 at an auction when nobody would bid on it (with another machine and lots of parts). I cleaned it up, spent $10 on cords, $20 at sewing shop, and have a wonderful old (same age as me) machine.

with everything going sky hight in $$, I predict that their is going to be a hot market for sewing machines. I quit sewing clothes because I could buy cheaper than I could make. things may change, !!!
