I live in the Houston TX area and my very very VERY favorite quilt shop here is Painted Pony n Quilts in LaPorte TX.
It's on the southeast side of Houston towards Galveston and I'm on the southwest side but I gladly make the 30 mi trip to this shop. We have a couple of good smaller shops on the SW side but if I want to shop a LOT I head to PPQ. They are always helpful, have all the latest fabric lines and the BEST selection of reproductions, batiks, 30's, kids fabrics and just about everything else you can imagine .... great book & pattern selections
If you are in the Houston area, don't miss PPQ !! :) :)

Also recommend Las Colchas, Seventh Heaven & Plain Janes in San Antonio and the Quilt Haus in New Braunfels TX. I used to frequent these shops when my daughters were in college in SA.
Also, don't miss Creations in Kerrville TX, just a little NW of San Antonio - it's a great shop I never miss visiting when we're out that way. :)

I love the Fabric Center in Morris Il. They are so nice, I always went there when I visited my sister in Cole City.

Also I love Fabric Chicks in Minden, NV. Beth has some wild fabrics there. Beth also has doll making fabrics and patterns from Elanor Piece Baily. Very famous out this way.

My LQS where I shop is Sew Much More in Paris, TX. In this area we are lucky that we have access to at least 10 shops or more within a two hour drive. But I mainly shop the LQS.

Be thankful for any quilt or fabric store in your area. Here in
northern Maine I have to travel 11/2 hours for Wally world and they have cut back on the fabric and craft dept. There in a "quilt shop" near there but her prices are beyond a fixed income consumer. We have Marden's surplus shop her e and they sell good quality fabric mostly cottons for the quilter but they sell fabric that's 2 or 3 years old. They price it $2.69 to $3.99 a yard.
When i go to Ct. I purchase alot of fabric at Joanns' and any other fab shop.My stash gets an update as often as I can.

Nancy's Calico Shop in Newport News, VA, is an excellent shop for quilters and has a great selection of fabric. The owner and the sales people are very friendly and helpful. She continues to expand her business. She is a Bernina dealer; also has machine repair people on her premises for any sewing machine you might own which makes it is very convenient to keep your machine in good order. She has excellent classes with very professional teachers. Anyone coming to the Quilt Show in Hampton could pop up to the Hidenwood Shopping Center in Newport News and pay her a visit. She is also a "vendor" at the Quilt Show.
