Naming a sewing machine
#11
I took a class a couple of weeks ago and one of the other ladies mentioned that she and her friends always have a party when someone gets a new machine and it officially gets a name. Have you named your sewing machine? I affectionately call my 6600p my workhorse, but never really thought of giving it a name.

I only started naming my machines when I got my new-to-me Gammill. We were NOT friends for a couple months. I said 'righty tighty, lefty loosey' so many times! When we were truly on speaking terms, she got the name 'Lucy'! My new Innova and I have been friends from day one...funny she does not have a name yet. I keep thinking 'Jane'...

Lollollollol! I hear ya'! I am a Pfaff owner and have noticed there are no replies from other Pfaff owners. Wonder how they name their machines...Fuffie comes to mind. Or maybe FIFI. Um, no, Sewing machine will do!

My 440QE is my "baby"; my white FW is Miss Blanche (because she came from Mississippi); my oldest FW (1939) is Spike, because he is one tough looking little dude; and my tan FW is Turbinado, which is a type of brown sugar. I have 3 other FWs, all black, two Berninas, a Singer treadle and a couple other machines which haven't been named and probably won't be.

The only machine I have that truly has a name is my Janome 6600, which was named "Princess Leia" by the dealer that sold her to me. LOL
I try to give names to things because I like the idea, but then I forget what I named things. I had a name for my brand new car but now I can't remember what I picked!

It seems to be mostly popular with the vintage machine collectors to name their machines. But then, they usually have over a dozen, if not more. They need something to keep them straight! When I started buying vintage machines I always asked what the original owner's name was, and that was the machine's name. But I didn't remember the names and sort of got tired of the gimmick. So now I just refer to them by their make and model (like a big girl...).
