Naval Jelly - anyone ever use it on machines?

I use Evaporust to clear up rust. It's not at all caustic, unlike Naval Jelly. You can use Evaporust with your bare hands and it's safe to put it down the drain. It clear up surface rust very well.

My DH uses it for removing rust spots on the cars. He says it is an acid base, therefore you lose a certain amount of diameter or surface when using this product. What type of machine are you using it on? If you google Naval Jelly, it gives you some awesome information, the how, why and when factors.
