Need advice on squaring blocks
#11
:D Thanks to everyone and for the links. I need to use a scant 1/4" seam. I was trying to sew at exactly 1/4" and didn't allow for the slight pull of the fabric by the stitches. I'll try another go around tomorrow and see if it works better!

I would spritz the smaller ones with water and block them out. If you get them all to be within 1/4" the same, I would go ahead & use them the way they are and just stretch or smoosh them a little to make them all fit. Use pins to line up the seams. If there is more than 1/4" difference it won't work without pulling something out of whack.

The first thing to check is whether your dimensions are correct, since you reconfigured the blocks. If they are, and since you're practicing with scraps, your best option is to perfect your seams so that you produce the desired block size. Squaring a block shouldn't be necessary if you sew with scant 1/4" seams, and it adds a lot of work and aggravation when the design doesn't flow as it should from block to block. (That said, I have been known to square off a block or two, because they don't all come out perfect.)
