    Default Need advice

I am making a quilt for my son with patches in each block in whitish area. I'm quilting blocks before assembling because quilt is pretty big. My question is, how should I quilt the white patch area? I'm using a varigated thread for the colored area but was wondering if I should use an off white thread for the plain area?? And what kind of design? Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks for looking.

I would use a light color on the light color square and since you can see the quilt lines under it....I would do lines radiating from the patch out to the edge.

Is the white center a 10 minute block style? If so it is already fairly thick. I think I might do a design with my walking foot so I didn't have to worry about the FMQ skipping a stitch over the seams. Maybe stitch a large star with the patch as the center? It would match in with the other quilting in the background and stay with your theme.

I agree with TreasureIt, to use the lighter thread and continue the lines that you can see thru the white fabric. If you aren't going the whole distance of the strips, I would also go around the outer edge of the white square to make it look finished from the back side. Good luck and look forward to seeing the finished quilt. Love the colors.

Yes, it is a 10 minute block.

I would use light, matching cream color thread for that area. An echo circular pattern around the center oval patch stitched fairly close together would look great. Or a diamond shape echoed around the center patch. I also like the idea of straight lines radiating out from the edges of the center oval.

Congratulations to your son and your whole family. As a mom of an Eagle Scout I know how much work this takes for the Scout and the parents. Your quilt is wonderful
