Golden Threads paper is great to use. I start with a new needle and check it periodically because I must have some form of quilting OCD.

I have used tulle to trace quilting patterns for hand embroidery. It's a cool process. I just googled I and found a blog that explains it. Trace your pattern onto tulle using a permanent marker. Let it dry. (I learned this the hard way, if you know what I mean!) Now you have a see-through pattern that you can pin in place on your quilt and trace with a chalk pencil or disappearing ink. The tulle is open enough that the markings wind up on your quilt. Remove the tulle and quilt away!
