need gift ideas again!

Ya'll are so great about helping me come up with gift ideas, I thought I would pick your brain again...
My baby shower is coming up in about 5 weeks. I have 4 ladies from work that are hosting it. I am expecting about 60 women--alot of work for these friends to take on.
I would like to make them something as a "thank you". Obviously, it needs to be quick. I was thinking a nice coffee mug with a quilted "cozy". can't think of anything else.
also, I will be out the full 60 days with FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act) and combined with my summer vacation, won't return back to school until mid-September. My assistant recently resigned and left me 15,000 volumes to pack up, move, and unpack in the new school building/library. My long term sub has graciously taken all this on (or most of it!) while I am out. I can't express my appreciation enough to her. To allow me an extra 6 weeks at home with my little one, while she unpacks my library and gets the year off to a good start is overwhelming. I am thinking about a lap quilt for her. Nothing fancy (I will, afterall, be home with 2 boys under age 3), but a small token of my appreciation. how does that sound???
thanks for reading this long message, this early in the morning...

As for a lap quilt that is easy yet fabulous, have you seen these bargello blocks?

Since it is done in blocks, you would have less mess all around for the little ones to get into.

How about a wall hanging with books or school items on it. I did one for our librarian when she retired and the titles on the books reflected her favorite one.
