Such a precious gift! Add a border and square it up if you must. Make sure you put a label stating your Aunt's name and whom she made it for. Maybe the date your aunt passed away and the date the quilt was completed.

I wouldn't touch a thing. Add a border and finish it. You're right...every stitch was a labor of love from your aunt. Your story pulled at my heart and reminded me of my aunt Donna. I inherited all of her unfinished projects and fabric when she passed seven years ago. She taught me to quilt and before she died she asked me to complete all her projects for her. Out of 18, I only have a couple left to finish but I've left each one as she she had it...I can see the deterioration of ability as time got closer to her passing, but that makes them even more precious to me.

I completely understand your not being able to take the stitches out. My DIL and I spent time together basting a Lone Star quilt together but before I got to the quilting she suddenly passed away from toxic shock syndrome. Her daughter was 14 months old at the time and she is now 17. It was years before I could take that quilt out and handle it again. When I was emotionally ready to quilt it I decided to leave the basting in. It hangs on my wall as a reminder of her and will go to my granddaughter when she gets older. I used to cry every time I looked at it but now it only brings smiles.
I would put the border on it and then square it up. You might want to exaggerate the wonky aspect with a wonky border. Ann in TN
