Several years ago (possibly 2010-11), I got a process for binding quilts off this forum. I have lost these directions since the last time I bound a quilt. The main point of the directions is how you start and finish applying the binding. You do this in such a manner that the binding fits neatly in the space allotted to it. The directions came with pictures. I have 2 quilts that I need to bind this week, so your help would be greatly appreciated.

-Go to "Advanced Search" in the upper right of this page.
-Next click on the "Search Single Content Type" on the left side, under the ad
-Put "Binding" (without the quotes) into the "Keyword(s)" box
-Select "Search Titles Only" from the dropdown
-under "Additional Options" select "Tutorials" from the "Search in Forum(s)" list.
This will bring up all the tutorials for binding.

Julie et al, I posted that method. It was forwarded to me by my cousin. Unfortunately I soon found out that it was originally authored by a lady who was not pleased to have me post it! (we ended as friends) So I had it deleted.
I've seen the same method done on other videos. I googled "overlapping binding ends" and found this one:

I have used the binding tool and the process in the website above - but a friend showed me the quickest way for her was to just fold them at the angles so they meet, then press to set the lines, then match up the lines, sew on the line, trim and there it is. Not sure why I didn't see it before, because I was watching the videos over and over again, still would sew it backwards from time to time. Drove me crazy - I could not remember and would get it backwards, not sure why my brain could not retain their process, it just isn't that hard. So my friend has saved my sanity.

Overlap and sew the ends just as you would for joining the binding strips. Right sides together. Pin and try it before you sew. Must admit I still have to look at it every time before I bind! No gadgets or special rulers are needed - just make sure to leave your binding long before you attach it!

leave about 10" of binding fabric loose at the beginning of attaching your binding- then when you get around to the beginning overlap your 2 ends- cut one off so the overlap is the same size as your binding (if you used 2 1/2" strips to make your binding then cut your overlap to be 2 1/2") open the 2 binding ends, fold the quilt so you can manipulate the 2 pieces over each other to sew a diagonal line- stitch the diagonal, trim the (waste triangles) refold the binding and finish sewing it to the quilt. (always check to make sure you sewed your diagonal in the correct direction before you trim the triangles.)
