Default Need Help! Farmer's Wife Block Size

Ok, just finished my first block and the it measures a small 6 1/4" X 6 1/4". Are the blocks supposed to be 6X6 AFTER all sewing/sashing/quilt is complete? Or is the initial size 6X6 which will be 5 1/2" X 5 1/2" when quilt is complete?

I'm SO confused. I just joined the Yahoo group but no one has replied yet.

    Thanks!

I think they are supposed to be 6" finished. One of the ladies in my quilting group has done 2 of the complete quilts and she said that they are 6" blocks finished. So BEFORE sewing them together they should be 6 1/2". Hope this helps, good luck!

Never heard of this pattern but it sounds interesting. Think I'll check it out.

I thought mine was probably a little small. From what I gathered in blogland last night it appears a lot of ladies had to re-do some of their smaller blocks. I'm off to rip! Thanks!!!

I think the secret of the FW block is scant 1/4" seams......

FWS blocks are 6" finished, so 6-1/2" unfinished.

With the number of seams, you really do need to be precise on your piece cutting as well as your 1/4" seams. A thread plus or minus will make such a difference.

There has been a whole series of threads re the FWS blocks, as several ladies did the quilt together on a 2 block per week basis. Here's a link to the finished quilts

    Mine is at post #203

There are still many working on the quilt, and posting to the appropriate threads ... so why don;t you join in on the fun as those who have gone before you still come to the threads as you post to oooh and aaah and help.
