    I was given a crazy quilt top, already completed even with the embroidery. do you quilt this now or tack it? I really do not know how to finish it

    The ones I've seen were always tied, since there were so many different kinds of fabric and decorations in it. The ties were snugged in tightly and cut short after a strong knot was tied in it.
    I think the knot used generally was the surgeon's knot. Tutes are on the Internet.

    Most of the really old ones I've seen were tied from the back just thru the muslin layer and not all the way thru the top. That way the ties didn't mess up any of the embroidery.
