I have mine in old blade containers marked old. I reuse them to trim quilts before sewing binding on. Makes a nice even cut. After they quit working for that, I will then toss the full container. Bent needles and pins go in old medicine bottle then tossed.

I actually wrap my blades in layers of masking or duct tape until they are completely wrapped (takes multiple layers not to "cut through", then I toss in the trash.

I put my used blades back into the package they come in, then when I have an abundance I take them to our local hardware store and give them to them. They recycle them for me. I don’t know how or what they do with them. I heard once they sharpen them & give them to a local group (vfw, Eagles, scouts? Not sure)

I put blades either into parmasean cheese containers when empty or they go into an empty liter bottle with a slit cut into the side--when it gets "full" I just tape over the slit. This is how to handle sharps at quilt retreats too.

I take my old blades to my doctors office and they dispose of them with their used needles.

I use a clean Kraft Parmesan cheese shaker. The big opening on top is perfect to drop the blades in, the shaker opening is perfect for pins. I’ve had mine for over 5 years, and it still isn’t full!

Several months ago someone posted on Quilting Board that you could exchange old rotary blades for new ones at this web address: http://www.lpsharp.com/exchange.html

I always put a large X on my old blades and put them back in the container they came. I contacted them to see if they would accept with the X on them. Their answer was yes.

I use an old bouillon cube jar to store used blades. The size of the jar is perfect for the blades. I haven't filled it up yet so I'm not sure what I'll do when it's filled.
