I used to wrap them really well and put out with garbage until the light bulb in my head came on! I have a container supplied by my pharmacy for disposing of used insulin needles, so I asked them if they would take the old sewing machine needles, pins and blades as well and they were happy to do so for me. Not in the same container though!

Wow!! That's a cool idea. I never thought of that! Thanks for the great idea! I use a Crystal Light container to put my used blades in. I put my broken/bent pins & needles in an empty medicine bottle. When they are full, I wrap them in duct tape and then write used needles on the outside.

I use a glass pickle jar. My husband cut a slot on the top and I can safely drop in cutting blades, pins or needles. When it is full I take another jar - put the slotted lid on the empty jar and the solid lid on the full one and throw it away.

You can buy a sharps container at any medical supply store. They are usually red, and mine is big enough to put 5+ year's worth of broken needles, bent pins and old rotary blades. And quite reasonably priced, too

I keep them in the package they come in. I mark the used ones with a sharpie and put them in the bottom of the pile. I save them to use to cut paper and other things that are not fabric. When the container is full I tape it shut and throw it in the trash.

If you don't have one, or some other container to put it in, you can always wrap up a bad blade in duct tape before tossing it. Sometimes I put sharp things (broken glass, etc.) into milk cartons.
Exactly what I do. Safe for me and any one who has contact with my trash/recycling. I have heard of folks slipping them into the "sharps" boxes in medical facilities, but I would not recommend that.

I, too use the container they came in marked as old. I also carry a small pill bottle for my quilting on the go for bad needles and pins. I quilt in church (it's okay because it keeps me quiet) so no one objects. Nothing is worse than having a needle bend or break and no place to dispose of it. Those little pill containers are so handy.
