Need help from a math wizzard!
I want to set my quilt on point. I know how to do that and know how to figure the setting triangles. What I don't know is how to figure the size of the finished quilt. If I use 12" finished blocks and use 13 blocks, what size will the quilt be before I add borders? I sketched out what I want and when its sewn together with the setting triangles and hung straight, it will be 3 blocks across x 3 down. So do I just take the diagonal measurement of the block times 3? So for 12" blocks the diagonal measurement is 17", so 17 x 3= 51" square? Or 10" blocks would measure 14 1/8 diag. so 14 1/8 x 3 =42 3/8 before borders? This is a special quilt and I really don't want to screw it up. I do not want anything larger than a lap quilt. HELP PLEASE ! Thanks. Jan

Well this is interesting. I drew it up in EQ, 12" blocks. Ends up being 50.912" square. That's a difference of 8 inches between the "math whizzes" and EQ. Well, some of the math whizzes.

51.000 - 50.912 = 00.088. That is less than 1/10 of an inch difference.

A big thank you to everybody here! You are the best of the
best!
I don't have EQ and divorced a math whiz over 20 years ago...so I'll stick with this board for help! lol
Seriously, you made my day. Now I'm back working on my quilt and hopefully I can post a picture soon.
