I recently finished my first quilt with the help of some expert friends. While we were assembling the backing I thought I would remember the steps but sadly I forgot.
I know you iron the top and the backing.
Spread the backing on the floor and tape it down.
Place the batting on the backing.
Place the top and pin the top to the back.
I can't remember when to trim the edges of the backing off or size up the top.
What is the next step after the quilt is pinned? I think I did some machine quilting (stitch in the ditch)?
    Thanks.
    Pat

I don't trim until all my quilting is done - just before I put on the binding. There's no such thing as a dumb question! I'm always greatful for those who ask and I can learn without having to ask. Post pictures soon!

After it's pinned, you'll want to quilt it. I'm assuming you are going to use a domestic machine???? Start in the middle of the quilt and continue outwards.
Sew on your binding with the machine, then trim the excess batting and backing. If you trim before then, you might not catch the backing the way you should.
This is just the way I do it...there are probably other ways to do it.

Thank you everyone. I am a visual person but I should have written down step-by-step at the time we were doing the backing.
