    Thanks for the link, this could be doable with my new template I'm getting tomorrow. I can do it free motion and it could be easier than turning the quilt. I like it!

    I like the quilt shown on that link as well. There were several good ideas on that page. I can't wait to see how you complete yours.

    Since the plaid on the back has light lines, you could use white top and bottom.
    It is okay to cross your path, and even repeat a line if it helps to stitch around your blocks.
    You could also stitch in parallel rows, ignoring the fabric changes.

    I really like a khaki color similar to the fabric in the second row on the right hand side. It would be nice on both sides. I would either stitch in the ditch with additional quilting if needed or I would stitch vertical or horizontal lines about an inch apart over the entire quilt. Sometimes I use a serpentine stitch with a longer stitch length.

    You could use your backing as your quilting guide by following the lines on the flannel.

    My vote is to use a dark gray, and do cross hatching. Diagonal would be cool.

    Golden tan on top. There isn't any gray in the quilt. Navy or red on the back.
