need an idea

Your welcome. I book marked this thread for future reference. I just might want to try out the clamshells as well. That is a fabulous tutorial. Sorry, I couldn't offer any practical advice. I've never made a clamshell quilt.

started one when I joined the QB, never did anything with it. I think i'll drag it out tomorrow and see how it's going. when I did it, I appliqued the clamshells onto the backing and batting. I did the rest the way it was shown.

This is what I'm thinking about doing, because I HAVE to have a hand sewing project going. Saw a site that showed the hexagon divided into 3 diamonds, therefore making tumbling blocks! I think I wrote the link down somewhere, will see if I can find it, and come back and post it. I'm currently still doing hexies, right now a butterfly, have literally stacks of butterflys and flowers! LOL!
Check out Mickey Depre's website...she does a different take on hexies.....a combo of machine work and hand work......fun to do.....or do the katja -forgot last name BOM ---offered on PaperPieces.com website. Millefiiore - amazing EPP!
Also, sue Daley's website on clamshells and other designs is interesting.....just some thoughts....let us know what you decide to do.....

Jane, the ladies are too fancy for me, but I love the idea.
i'll search to see if I can find something "Beachy".
have one more column to put on the GFG hexies.
will be done by the weekend.

What about Mickey DePre's hexies and other blocks (http://mdquilts.com/)? She has a lot of neat blocks.

One that I did awhile back as a hand piecing project was an around the world quilt using 2-1/2" squares. I chose to do mine starting in the center and adding the squares in stairsteps around that dark center square. I used all different shades of green going from dark to light and back to dark. I did not paper piece. Since I wanted the diamond shape orientation, when it was as wide as I wanted, I started decreasing the # of squares per row until it was a single square of the color in each of the corners.
I'm out of state at the moment so can't post a picture until next month.
