There are several products that fit this description, most are a combination of the words sticky + tac or tack. It's available at office supply and craft stores. Museum putty is another name for a very similar product.

I have a "Pedal Stay" that Rhonda K had posted a link for. I have a hardwood floor and this little rubber mat does the trick.

you guys are the best! Knew I'd get fresh ideas--I have some museum putty and will try that this weekend. I'll also look for a bath mat also for classes, etc.
