Brother 1500S. Have others, but for for a good solid straight stitch and FMQ, I've doubt there is better. I paid 525 about 2 years ago, but I think they are 600 or 700 now. Well worth the price. Babylock Jane is the same machine, usually more expensive for the fancier name. But machines are identical.

I second this, I am very happy with my 2010, especially after I found a 1/4" foot with guide that makes piecing very accurate. I thought I'd only use this machine for FMQ, but now I use it all the time.

I recently purchased a Husqvarna Tribute from 2012, a discontinued model with a LARGE throat. Currently quilting a king on it with no issues! I got a great price on it as it was a close out, under $1000.

There's also the Pfaff Grand Quilter and Husqvarna Viking Mega quilter, both have a 9" throat, vertical bobbin. Straight stitch only. I don't know if they're still being made.

I have the 6600 and the throat space is only 9". It is the 7700 that has the 11" throat.
