    this actually ends up being done in straight strips, with no 'y' seams.

    Whatever gave you the idea you couldn't? Like I said, I used the Y-seam method. It was actually kind of fun to sew all the little blocks and then put them together. I had to fiddle with it a bit to get the feel for the start and stop of the Y-seam but once I had that, it came together nicely.

    If you don't want to go Y-seam, there is a method that uses straight seams.

    I've used this pattern in the pattern that Quilters Cache has. THey are pretty easy to figure out.
