Need a little help with quilt design
A dear friend ask if I could make her a quilt with pictures of Yorkies on it as she loves this breed of dogs.
I have 5, 16 inch sqaures with a Yorkie dog on it but I don't know what to do with them to make a quilt..my thoughts were to use some other block or just a plan square inbetween the dog blocks. so if I put 3 blocks accross and 3 down it would be 48x48 or there about. Then with some borders it could be made into a nice size lap quilt.
My problem is what block to use with the dog print blocks. anyone know of a easy block that would look good with the dog blocks..Thanks

You can never go wrong with log cabins.
Either frame up the dogs with a log cabin, or make smaller ones to set along the sides.
Or an assortment of of your favourite blocks could work well with the pups too.

Those blocks certainly are and need to remain the stars of the show!
All of my immediate ideas are rather low volume/contrast, but I can also see how some contrasting dog show blue and red ribbons would brighten up the piece.
I like the florals in some of the pictures and I would do some sort of "dog park" abstract theme. Pick up the florals, some green for a yard, could even be some sort of snowball block that way, those can really give some movement to a simple alternate square layout. Could be any blocks you want, even sampler different stars or whatever but again, I'd be keeping it very low contrast to not compete in any way with the dogs. You want to see the dogs and then sort of notice, oh hey -- there's something going on over here too. Maybe something like large floral triangles to be like square in a square with the dogs the center, and then a pieced sashing of narrow/wide/narrow bands, where they come together you use a square of the wide fabric.
My big area of despair is with the quilting design. No help at all from me on that for all I could think of 20 things to do in the setting.

You could make an attic window quilt. It would showcase the images of the dogs.
Here's one I made for my dog loving kids from Dogs on the Beach fabric (sorry that it is somewhat "out of focus") :

I used some pre-printed blocks, some applique, when I made a charity quilt to be auctioned for a Boxer rescue. Quilted within, a bone, dog house, collar, water bowl, ball, etc.
