The blocks are about 9 inches. It is 5 across and 7 down so aprox 45x72. I was thinking about making it about 4 inches. does that seem OK? I usually don't do borders, but the beautiful sayings on it (Note to Self fabric) seemed like they should be a border to avoid cutting it off.

I think that looks good. I like borders. I might be tempted to do a smaller inner border in a light color. But I think it would look good without that too.

I would use a dark navy. 4" is fine.

I do have the same fabric in a dark blue, hopefully it is enough.

because there is so much red/brown in the body of the quilt, if you use only one border, i would use another dark color. if you want to use the fabric you have, maybe a thin border in another dark color would work well imho

I think the border is too narrow but I love the color.
