The first and third accentuate the small squares which I understand is the standard look of the Irish chain, the second looks more like standard 9 patch squares - just my opinion. I like the gray if that is their color, and love the blue too, very peaceful.

I like the first one. There is much more of a value difference that makes the colored squares stand out better. The other two, and particularly the third one, are getting too close in value and don't highlight the colored squares as well. If you squint your eyes, the colors in the third one all but disappear, and this will not get any better as the quilt gets bigger.

I like the second one. Brighter and more upbeat.

I like 1 and 2. Personally, I'd go for the brighter blue.

Do you like his fiance? If you do, I'd steer away from the first one. There's a lot of black in that one. When I think of weddings and new beginnings, I think of white. When I think of funerals and endings, I think of black.

I think the third has too much blue. Therefore, I like the second one best. Are you considering any lighter colors? Again, when I think of weddings, I think of lighter colors. Congratulations to your son and his fiance!

I don't care for the black....it will show lint really badly I think.
I like the colors in the second but its not a true irish chain as Prism99 pointed out. But love the blue.
The 3rd one is kkind of washed out to me.
